Drivers 'increasingly supporting speed cameras'

Car Finance customers may be in agreement with the 81 per cent of Wiltshire drivers who have said they believe speeding can endanger lives.

A study cited recently by the Wiltshire Times has shown that 86 per cent of the county's motorists would not like to see speed cameras removed, with 87 per cent feeling the safety measures being a way of cutting road casualty numbers.

Of those questioned, almost three-quarters said that they felt driving excessively fast in a low speed limit area could be as dangerous as doing so in an area where the limit is higher.

Manager of the Safety Camera Unit Nisha Devani commented: "It is encouraging to see that the message that speeding kills is getting through and this survey confirms that there is support for safety camera enforcement in the area and that people believe cameras play an important part in saving lives on our roads."

Earlier findings by the Institute of Advanced Motorists showed that almost 80 per cent of motoring Brits support speed cameras.
