Motorists with Car Loans may have been lucky to avoid denting their motors after being dazzled by an oncoming car.

Research by TUV Rheinland has highlighted that the majority of European drivers have been dazzled by other motorists, with more than 50 per cent of those questioned saying that the problem affected them often or very often.

The main way of trying to rectify the problem was by adjusting mirrors, the findings show.

However, some motorists turned to their sunglasses to combat the problem, with British drivers twice as likely as their French and German counterparts to do so.

Of those questioned, the majority had not thought to use auto dimming mirrors.

"What this study shows is that too many motorists are unaware of automatic dimming mirrors and their safety benefits," said managing director of European operations for Gentex, an auto dimming mirror manufacturer, Klaus Weibler.

Meanwhile, the RAC Foundation suggested that many motorists forget to dip their headlamps, which can cause oncoming traffic to be dazed.
