The number of people caught drink driving over the festive season - potentially including some Car Loans holders - may have fallen, but police need greater powers to enforce the rules.
This is according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), which has commented that the decline of 20 per cent in motorists over the legal alcohol limit should be a "springboard" to tackle the crime.
"Although this still means around 250 people a day were caught drinking and driving during December, the police are to be congratulated on the major progress made on the previous year," stated Kevin Clinton, Head of Road Safety at RoSPA.
The body has suggested that the figures could decline even more if police were given extra enforcement powers.
It is also calling for a reduction in the legal blood alcohol limit, Car Credit customers may be interested to read.
Over the festive period, police in Devon and Cornwall also reported a drop in the number of drink drivers detected.
