Four-by-four used car market grows

May 19 2009

New figures have revealed the market for four-by-four used cars has increased in recent months after a long period of decline.

Many motorists have shunned four-by-fours in recent times because of their image as polluters and the cost to run them during the recession.

However, the latest statistics from the British Car Auctions (BCA) organisation have shown values have been growing steadily since December last year, having spent much of 2008 in decline.

"The four-by-four double-cab sector was hit extremely hard last year and although prices have recovered well, these vehicles can still look very good value for money to the right buyer," explained Duncan Ward, head of BCA's commercial vehicle sales.

He added: "Lifestyle vehicles still need to be pristine, however, and fully loaded to achieve the best values, while working examples should not be over travelled and again in good condition."

As the recession has hit the UK, a growing number of motorists have been looking to downsize their vehicles to smaller cars rather than buying larger, more expensive motors.

The used car market has seen prices rise considerably since the start of the year as more people look to avoid splashing out on a brand new vehicle during the economic downturn.
