Green 'bargains' available for car loans customers

Nov 17 2008

Going green need not break the bank, a leading motoring magazine has claimed.

Changes to the tax regime have made low-emissions vehicles more desirable, as some of them will soon be exempt from vehicle excise duty and others will attract a bill of just £35 a year.

While it may have been thought that manufacturers would attempt to cash in on this development by charging higher prices for their most fuel-efficient cars, Which? Complete Guide to Greener Driving has discovered that good deals are available.

It has identified ten environmentally-friendly models which Car Finance customers can purchase for under £10,000.

They include the FIAT Panda 1.3 Multijet Dynamic, TOYOTA Aygo 1.0 VVT and Hyundai i10 1.2 Comfort.

Richard Headland, the publication's editor, said that many drivers are put off the idea of environmentally-friendly cars by the £17,000 price tag of the high-profile Toyota Prius.

He added: "However, there are some great eco cars which are much cheaper - even more so at the moment. We've found some incredible deals for less than ten grand."

Meanwhile, Auto Express has given the new 76.3 mpg, low-emissions FORD Fiesta Econetic a five-star review.ADNFCR-1366-ID-18880592-ADNFCR
