HPI milestone 'could boost confidence of potential car loan customers'

Car loan customers can buy with further confidence after a vehicle mileage database hit a new landmark.

HPI's national mileage register is further protecting potential car buyers and dealers against clocking after collecting 125 million UK vehicle readings.

Potential car buyers often perform an HPI check on their chosen vehicle before seeking Car Finance to make the purchase.

HPI's director of automotive Daniel Burgess said: "By reaching 125 million records, the national mileage register takes us a huge step further towards combating the problem of clocking."

He added legitimate dealers would make every effort to validate the mileage of vehicles to set themselves apart from more underhand retailers before selling cars to people granted a car loan.

HPI checks also reveal whether or not the car has outstanding finance and ensure it has not been written off or registered as stolen. HPI claims around four in every 100 vehicles checked using its system have been written off because of an accident or theft.

The system is used both by used car buyers and by people looking to buy a car being sold as new.
