Loans customer pays record fee for Rolls Royce
Loans customer pays record fee for Rolls Royce
Dec 6 2007
The world's oldest Rolls Royce has been bought at auction in London for a record fee of £3.5 million.
An anonymous bidder at the auction at Bonhams paid the amount for the 1904 open-topped two-seater car, which is the highest-ever amount spent on a pre-1905 vehicle.
Car Loans customers may be interested to know that two telephone bidders battled it out for the vehicle, which was the fourth that Charles Rolls and Henry Royce made together. Car Finance and Car Credit on such an old vehicle may be hard to find, so a specialist company may need to be found.
Tim Schofield, head of UK motor sales for Bonhams, told Reuters: "The purchaser could get in and drive it away. You would just need to tickle the carburettor, make sure the battery has a bit of life in it, remove the sleeve from the starter handle and give it a couple of turns."
The Rolls-Royce brand has spawned many legendary cars, including the Phantom and the Silver Ghost.
