Wear and tear on break pads could cause loans customers to crash this winter as they often fail to stand up to the cold weather, a leading expert has claimed.
Research by Car Parts Direct has concluded that Car Finance customers must upgrade their brakes regularly in order to stop a 'break fade' effect - where the breaks cut out completely.
The company's study found that a one-second delay in the breaks taking effect at 70 mph will make the car travel an extra 102 feet. Car finance and Car Credit could be affected as a result of any crash.
Mark Cornwall, of Car Parts Direct, said: "We regularly hear from customers who describe the 'brake fade effect' when ordering brakes. It's often described as a heart-stopping and frightening experience as it normally occurs when trying to brake after driving quite fast."
Earlier this week, research by Kwik-Fit found that 16 per cent of breakdowns across the UK are due to flat batteries which are not checked over the winter months.
