Motorists who crash because they are using their mobile phone while driving may invalidate their insurance claims for car repair or replacement, an industry expert has claimed.
While it is always the case that insurance covers other people's cars, drivers may have to go on a Used Car Search to find a vehicle to drive if they were using a mobile phone whilst driving, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) said.
Car Credit and future Car Finance could be affected from such a crash, while driving and using a mobile phone brings a minimum £60 fine. As use of a mobile when driving is illegal, it could harm searches for Car Loans in the future.
A spokesperson for the ABI said: "It could place you with major financial problems as you'd have to meet the cost of repairs/replacement yourself - this could run into thousands or tens of thousands of pounds."
The ABI represents the collective interests of the UK's insurance industry.
