This Saturday (March 1st) is set to be a big day for car sales, an expert has claimed.
With the new '08 number plate being available this week, many motorists are likely to want to be the first to get their hands on a new car bearing the plate.
"Motorists keen to be the first to have an '08 registration plate will make Saturday one of the biggest days for car sales in 2008," said Sue Robinson, director of the Retail Motor Industry's National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA).
Sales are expected to be boosted, with many drivers - potentially including those with Car Loans - selling their older models during the month, perhaps to make a space on the driveway for a more up to date vehicle.
The NFDA has suggested that the trading year ahead could be difficult as consumer debt and utility bills rise.
But Ms Robinson added: "Despite the twice-yearly number plate change introduced in 2001, many consumers still want to be the first to have a car with a new plate and the March plate change is proving to be more popular."
Meanwhile, car maker FORD is predicting "March madness" at its dealerships across the country as the new plate is introduced.
