Plans have been outlined for the implementation of new 20 mph zones in parts of Preston, Lancashire, to crack down on speeders.
Drivers in the area, potentially including those with Car Finance agreements, could be made to travel more slowly through Greyfriars and Cadley should the proposals receive approval from County Hall, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.
Should the zones come into force, they would be marked by new signals and potentially by smiley signs to highlight drivers' speeds.
Commenting on the scheme, Preston council's development cabinet member councillor Neil Cartwright said of the initiative: "We want to do it as quickly as possible. There has been a lot of local pressure in this area because of speeding cars and a lot of the roads being used as rat runs."
Meanwhile, it recently emerged that schoolchildren I Yorkshire have launched a poster campaign in a bid to reduce the number of people speeding through the county.
