The finance you need The car you want

Car News

Police are urging British drivers to be wary of placing visible temptations for opportunistic thieves in their vehicles.

Car Finance holders could be among those who have left items such as cameras and laptops unattended in their vehicles.

Sergeant Paul O'Reilly of the Castle Bromwich neighbourhood police team issued the warning after a number of recent thefts have been reported from unattended vehicles in the region, reports the Solihull Times.

"On each and every occasion it has been the result of the vehicle's owner leaving something on display," Sergeant O'Reilly told the newspaper.

Even an empty carrier bag can provoke a thief to smash a car window to investigate its contents, he suggested in the article.

Following the launch of a campaign by the neighbourhood police team to help promote awareness of the need for motorists to remove possessions from their cars, Sergeant O'Reilly told the newspaper: "We are reminding people not to leave items of value on view, or even in the glovebox."

Sainsbury's recently warned that frosting crime - when thieves take advantage of an unattended car being left to warm up the engine - has led to around 333,000 claims in the last five years.
