School run charge 'could affect car finance customers'
School run charge 'could affect car finance customers'
Apr 25 2008
Parents dropping children off at schools in one Surrey area could soon be subject to a congestion-style charge.
Motorists including Car Finance customers could be interested in the scheme, which aims to cut peak congestion and improve child safety.
Regional paper the Epsom Guardian reports Richmond Council is considering parent parking permits for schools in its area.
The paper quotes Richmond Council cabinet member David Trigg as saying: "The aim is to reduce car use for the school run, improve road safety around schools and protect parking facilities."
Some parents, possibly including car finance customers, could end up paying £75 for the permits if the scheme is approved.
However the proposal would allow some low-emission drivers to escape the charges while some gas guzzling cars could pay more than £75.
The scheme would reportedly allow families to buy a permit each for two cars maximum which will allow them to park in certain residential bays for a few minutes.
If the scheme is approved some car loan customers battling congestion could welcome the idea while others with children could be less keen.
