Smokers warned over selling their cars
Mar 26 2009People who smoke may find it difficult to find someone willing to buy a used car from them, it has been claimed.
According to the British Car Auctions (BCA) organisation, smoking when in the car could considerably devalue the used car when trying to sell it on.
"Our research shows that presentation is one of the top factors influencing the price of used cars," explained Tim Naylor, PR manager at BCA.
"Motorists should avoid having a cigarette in their car, especially if they intend to sell it in the near future. This will avoid the lingering smell of cigarettes hanging in the interior, as well as eliminate the risk of discolouring and leaving scorch marks in the ashtray or on upholstery," he advised.
The used car market has remained buoyant during the recent economic slowdown, despite a considerable downturn in the new car industry.
As motorists have less disposable income to spend during the current recession, it is expected that many more will turn to used cars to help them cut costs.
