Many motorists in the UK - potentially including those with Car Finance - have admitted to texting while driving.
Findings by the RAC Foundation have highlighted that 45 per cent of UK drivers have used their mobile phones at the wheel to send, read or receive text messages.
According to the motoring body, there are a number of texting types - including casual observers who will read texts while driving but not reply, and multi-tasking multimedia maestros, who will send messages in busy traffic.
Trendsetting team players were identified as being those motorists who switch off their mobiles while driving.
Research development manager for the RAC Foundation Elizabeth Dainton commented: "Our message is clear - texting whilst driving is not safe."
In 2007 it was suggested that motorists caught driving dangerously while committing offences such as using a handheld mobile phone at the same time should face up to two years in prison.
