Motorists who need bodywork repairs on their used cars have been advised to take them to an approved bodyshop.
Owners of Vauxhalls, Chevrolets and Saabs should take their used cars to a General Motors (GM) outlet rather than risk a sub-standard job, the company says.
Even if the claim is going through a car insurance policy, this will avoid putting your vehicle in the hands of untrained technicians, GM states.
It explains that a wide range of steels are used in vehicle manufacture and technicians at approved bodyshops will have the knowledge and equipment to ensure repairs are carried out correctly.
GM's accident repair manager Bernard Berman says accidents do happen, especially during the autumn and winter months.
"When they do, our advice to drivers of our vehicles is to think carefully before letting someone else decide on the quality of your repairs," he comments.
During Car Care Week, which runs until October 19th, motorists have been advised that keeping their cars well maintained could help protect their investment.
Autoglym says a thorough clean could add up to £600 to the sale price.
