The UK used car market is showing signs of stabilising after two months of record rises, it has been claimed.
Benchmark trade guide to used car pricing, CAP Black Book has announced April used car prices were showing stability, although dealerships and dealer groups continued to bemoan stock levels in the region of 30 per cent to 50 per cent lower than they would prefer.
Demand for used cars has surged over recent months and pushed the price of used cars higher, following a slump during much of 2008.
The record rises mean prices are now back on track and in the region seen at the start of 2008, before the slowdown hit the market.
Many people are choosing to purchase used cars instead of splashing out on brand new vehicles during the current recession.
The downturn has also put a squeeze on supply in the used car market, as drivers have been holding onto their cars for longer instead of upgrading to new models.
