Used car market showing signs of recovery
Mar 16 2009The used car market is recovering from last year's low points, one firm has suggested.
In its latest Pulse report, British Car Auctions (BCA) has said that values for used models rose for the fourth consecutive month in February, marking a "seasonal but possibly significant" recovery compared with the drops experienced last year.
Last month saw the value of used cars rise by £435 on January's figures - an increase of 8.4 per cent.
This rise is likely to have been afforded in part by the limited stock levels and high demand from professional sellers.
According to BCA, while the seasonal uplift is commonplace, it came as something of a surprise this year taking into account the current economic climate.
"Possibly the market is experiencing some deferred demand from last year, as potential buyers held back from any big-ticket purchases as the economic turmoil became apparent," the firm suggested.
Last month, BCA also reported recovery in the used van market.
