Used car trading "buoyant"
Mar 3 2009The used car market has seen positive sales results for the start of 2009, findings have shown.
According to results from auto services firm Manheim, sales of used cars rose by just under 50 per cent compared with the start of 2008.
Demand was particularly high for small, fuel-efficient vehicles, the findings show, while 4x4s and other large models were also snapped up after becoming excellent value at the end of last year.
Lewis Arthur, managing director of vehicle remarketing solutions at the firm, commented that trading between buyers and sellers was "buoyant".
"It's hard to believe the almost instant upturn we've seen since January 1st but with sales at the current high level, we're actually starting to run short of stock," he said.
He added that it was nice to see some optimism in the industry, but warned that the economy is still fragile.
Earlier findings from the firm showed that used van prices rose by 5.5 per cent in January.
