A number of young drivers - potentially including Car Loans customers - risk cracking their windscreens this winter by attempting to clear ice with hot water, a new study has found.
Research from Comma has found that as many as 300,000 drivers between the ages of 19 and 21 do not know that such a method can increase cracking within windscreens.
The survey found that young Car Finance customers are the worst prepared for seasonal weather conditions, with many admitting to using credit cards and CDs to scrape ice. By contrast, 71 per cent of over 50s use a traditional scraper.
Comma's Mike Bewsey said: "Young drivers have been accused of putting their cars at risk on the road, but they're also doing it before they even start the engine. In cold weather, everyone needs to take a bit of time to clear the window. A scraper should be an essential item in the car, along with a bit of de-icer for when the ice is really stubborn."
Last year, research by Comma found that men are twice as likely as women to injure themselves while repairing a vehicle.
