Nissan's Sunderland plant has been awarded a prestigious prize to commend it for its achievements in international trade.
The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are given out by Her Majesty as recognition of the achievement of UK businesses both in the UK and on an international scale.
The Sunderland plant was given the award in celebration of its increase in overseas sales from 2005 to 2007, as well as a 51 per cent increase in revenue during the same period.
"The award recognises the long-term achievement of Micra and Note, as well as the outstanding success that followed Qashqai's introduction in 2007," said Trevor Mann, senior vice president for manufacturing at NISSAN Europe.
He continued: "It also demonstrates that by winning the right models for the plant and reacting quickly to market conditions we have the ability to grow."
The success of the plant could help bolster interest in the used car market for Nissan's vehicles, as the award highlights the quality of the vehicles being produced by the manufacturer.
The Queen's Awards are made each year by Her Majesty on the advice of the prime minister, who is assisted by an advisory committee made up of representatives of government, industry, commerce and the trade unions.
