Nissan facing a marketing battle
Aug 23 2010Turf wars and one-upmanship is quite common in the extremely competitive auto industry and we have had a number of heated marketing battles involving some top brands. The latest one is between two famous brands – NISSAN and Porsche and that is to do with the rather guerilla like marketing strategy used by Nissan prior to the Good wood event – Festival of Speed. What’s more two other brands like BMW as well as AUDI are also part of the battle.
Nissan went ahead and emblazoned various vehicles on their sides with the famous logos of Audi, Porsche and BMW and also put tally marks just beside these logos to show how each time a Nissan vehicle scored over these brands at the race at Nurburgring.
Porsche obviously protested to the use of their logo without taking permission and is threatening legal action to which Nissan rather smartly replaced the shield on the logo with the Porsche name. Nissan has been carrying out a variety of aggressive marketing campaigns with rather provocative titles.
Both Audi and BMW are yet to respond as yet and it could just be a matter of time before they also join Porsche in this battle against Nissan.
