Automaker NISSAN has announced the launch of its new 4x4 range, which it claims is a leader in its field.
The company's X-TRAIL, Navara and Pathfinder models have been "streamlined and value-boosted", according to the company.
Nissan is aiming to reposition the vehicles toward the market that still needs 4x4s despite the economic downturn leading many people to downsize their cars.
"Times might be tough but that doesn't mean that authentic, practical 4x4s like the X-TRAIL, Navara and Pathfinder are any less relevant to buyers than they were," explained Nissan's 4x4 product manager Mark Kinnard.
"People whose family or business life involves load-carrying, camping, boats, caravans, horses, farming, hunting or just driving on non-existent roads will know that there's simply no substitute," he added.
The new focus of Nissan's 4x4 range could encourage people looking for a large vehicle to buy a used car as a cheap alternative.
According to recent figures from JATO Dynamics, a growing number of people are choosing to buy smaller cars such as the FORD Fiesta or VOLKSWAGEN Golf as the recession puts pressure on motorists' budgets.
