The 'Paparazzi' of the motoring press recently caught sight of a Peugeot 208 whilst it was being put through its paces in snowy conditions in the North of Finland. The car will eventually replace the Peugeot 207. Auto loan buyers will, however, have to wait until next year to own a new 208.
The first pictures of the test car do not provide us with a lot of insight into the looks of the new 208. As with all sneak tests, the Peugeot was heavily disguised. Auto loan buyers can, however, expect a number of significant changes, since Peugeot has already stated that it wants to give the new car a lot more interior space than its predecessor.
The wheelbase of the 208 is significantly longer than that of 207. Both the front and rear wheels have been placed much closer to the corners of the car. The A-pillars have also been moved closer to the front of the car.
The 208 is of course Peugeot's answer to the Fiesta. In order to compete better with the latter, Peugeot wanted to give the new car a much more upmarket feel than its predecessor, and borrowed heavily from its HR1 and SR1 models when it came to the design of the new model. The interior has also been completely revamped to give it a high quality, distinguished feel.
The Peugeot 208 will be available in the standard 3 and 5 door hatchback format, as well as a SW estate and hard-top convertible. Peugeot is apparently also considering a small MPV format to compete with the Juke and a coupe version similar to the RCZ.
The 208 will be available with a choice of 3 and 4 cylinder engines when it is released to auto loan buyers next year.
