Car loan buyers will be glad to hear that Peugeot has at last decided to get rid of the huge grille on its current 308 model to replace it with something considerably more modest. The new 308 model announced by Peugeot will have a cleaner look, in line with that of the Peugeot 508.
The most significant change to the front end of the car is the introduction of LED driving lights. Changes have also been made to the front bumper to make it an amazing 25kg lighter than its predecessor.
The new front end will be shared by the 308 hatch, the CC coupé-cabriolet and the SW estate. No changes were made to the back of the car, which stays the same for all models.
A new microhybrid diesel model, the e-HDi, will also be available in hatch, estate or coupé form. The e-HDi will be powered by a 1.6 litre 110bhp engine which features stop-start technology and battery regeneration. In the process, CO2 emissions will be cut to 98 g/km, which means that the car will be exempt from road tax - good news for the average car loan buyer.
The aerodynamics of the new 308 have been improved and also features ultra-low-resistance tyres. Buyers will be able to choose from four different trim levels. The lowest-priced model will be the Access, while the top of the range will be represented by the GT. The latter will be powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine that delivers 200bhp.
The car will debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show before being released to the general UK car loan market in May 2011.
