Peugeot unveils new people carrier

Jun 2 2009 Peugeot is hoping to stimulate the market for larger cars with the launch of its latest people carrier, the 5008.

The arrival of the new "compact" people carrier is also an important landmark for the company, reintroducing the firm's famous and successful 5 series of vehicles.

"Previous models carrying the 5 series label have included the legendary Peugeot 504 and the great family favourite the Peugeot 505 family estate," the company announced.

It is hoping this latest people carrier will help boost the larger car market, which has seen a sharp fall in sales during the recession.

The arrival of the new model could also increase the availability of larger vehicles in the used car market, where demand for cars has increased significantly since the turn of the year.

The new 5008 offers a wide variety of enhancements to Peugeot's previous models, including fold-away seats that lie flat at the back to significantly increase loading space, as well as a raised driving position offering improved views for the driver.

Last month, Peugeot announced it had sold out of pre-orders for the marque's new 308 CC model.
