Renault has started to sell its brand new Twizy model in the UK. Prices for the vehicle start at £6,690 plus £45 a month for battery rental. This is based on a three-year/4,500 per miles a year contract.
The Twizy will be marketed via a network of 22 Renault electric car professionals and the whole UK network will have demonstration and display cars from the 20th April.
Today also marks the beginning of the United Kingdom marketing campaign for the car featuring leading DJ David Guetta and his better half Cathy, as part of their worldwide ambassador agreement with Renault.
The new television and online advertising campaign is called “Plug Into The Positive Energy.” It is set in an imaginary club of the future called “Party Station,” where the dance floor produces the electrical power to recharge the Twizys parked below and includes David’s new track “Alphabeat.”
The compact two-seater zero-emission vehicle is recharged utilising a regular three-pin plug. A full recharge takes three and a half hours and gives the car a range of about 60 miles.
The Twizy is driven by a 17bhp electric motor with a modest top speed of 50 mph.
The reduced-power version, the Twizy 45 with a top speed of 28 mph and a maximum power output of 5bhp, was not initially intended for the UK market, but a recent announcement that a new classification of European driving licence for 16 year olds and older will be implemented in the UK from January next year has caused Renault UK to consider this possibility.
