Renault’s new electric vehicles

May 22 2010
It had to happen. More and more prominent auto manufacturers are realising and appreciating the tremendous first mover advantage in making clean fuel vehicles available to the consumer. Toyota blazed a path that is now being increasingly followed by other biggies. The green and clean fuel movement is gaining momentum with top auto manufacturers introducing their brand of such vehicles which they know makes commercial sense due to the fact that they can sell this through easy car loan schemes and the fact that consumers feel good about buying such vehicles.
Renault has joined the bandwagon with its two electric models – the Fluence Z.E and the Kangoo Van Z.E.
The Z.E tag refers to the zero-emission standard and Renault will be launching the Fluence as the first vehicle in the C-segment that has a drivetrain which is all-electric. It would run on lithium-ion batteries and they can be recharged for about six to eight hours at any home power outlet. This will give the car a covering capacity of 160km. Renault will improve upon this and introduce the fast charging technology by the year 2012. The Kangoo Van will also have the same range and the only difference is in the power specifications.
