Motor manufacturer SEAT has announced the launch of its latest concept car as it seeks to push into new markets.

The firm has unveiled the design for its Ibiza ST model, following the launch of the new Exeo saloon and ST models in the UK.

Seat is hoping the new Ibiza ST will be a strong competitor in the super MINI estate segment and is a follow-up to Seat's Cordoba Vario, which was launched into that market in 1998.

Commenting on the company's efforts to expand the range of models on offer by the company, Seat president Erich Schmitt said: "Customers want attractive, top quality vehicles regardless of whether times are good or bad."

He continued: "That is why we are launching ten new models that suit customers' tastes this year, thereby positioning ourselves for better times."

The arrival of new Seats in the marketplace could result in a growth in demand for the company's used cars, as well as an increase in supply, with more people trading in their old Seats for newer models.

The UK used car market has performed strongly over recent months, according to the British Car Auctions organisation, as more people look to save money by purchasing a used car rather than splashing out on a new one.
