Car Finance customers looking to reduce their carbon footprints could go for a TOYOTA model after it won a high-profile green award.

The Toyota Yaris has been named green car of the year 2008 by the Environmental Transport Association (ETA), which could interest motorists thinking of taking out a car loan for a fuel-efficient vehicle.

Experts at the group assessed 1,300 cars this year when compiling the Green Car Buyer's Guide, which examines power, fuel and emission issues.

Toyota said: "The Yaris has a strong, dynamic look and is exceptionally aerodynamically efficient with a Cd of 0.30 – among the best in its class."

The Japanese car maker also said its Prius hybrid car came third in the rundown of environmental vehicles.

Toyota first released the current generation of the Yaris in 2006 and the car also scooped first place in ETA's Super MINI category.

The manufacturer also builds the Auris, which is vehicle excise duty band C and is available from £12,305.ADNFCR-1366-ID-18640790-ADNFCR
