Shrewd buyers could be tempted to plump for the TOYOTA Aygo as their next new vehicle after it emerged as one of the slowest depreciating used cars.
According to research from Parker's car guide, secured Car Loans applicants who purchased the model last year will have lost just £4 on their investment over the last 12 months.
Vehicles such as the FIAT 500 and CITROEN C1 also performed well in the study, with small cars making up the entire top ten.
"The popularity of small cars has risen steadily over the past five year, but they're now really starting to strike a chord with buyers," said Kieren Puffett, editor of Parkers.
He pointed to low road tax and greater fuel economy as the primary motivations behind their success, with many drivers looking to downsize to help cut costs.
Another of Toyota's small car offerings, the Yaris, was named last year's Green Car of the Year by the Environmental Transport Association.
