Prius goes even greener
May 27 2009Car manufacturer TOYOTA has announced that its latest version of the Prius hybrid is even more environmentally-friendly than its predecessors.
According to the company, the newest models not only offer world-beating fuel efficiency thanks to the firm's hybrid technology, but are also being built in a more eco-friendly manner that will ensure they are a top choice for motorists concerned about the environment.
"Toyota's determination to reduce emissions and promote sustainability prompted it to research and develop the world's first injection-moulded material to be derived from plant matter," the company said in a statement.
The new ecological plastic is used throughout the new Prius model, offering motorists a major leap forward in the potential for environmentally-friendly driving.
It is hoped the move will encourage more people to turn to the Prius, meaning more of the vehicles could become available in the used car market in future, offering buyers of used cars the opportunity to drive the hybrid model.
Toyota has announced plans to make the new Prius even cheaper to buy than existing models in an effort to get more new buyers into the market, which has slumped in the wake of the global recession.
