Car manufacturer TOYOTA could be preparing to significantly cut the cost of its hybrid Prius vehicle in an effort to increase sales, it has been suggested.
Bloomberg reports that the firm is looking into the potential for heavily reducing the cost of the Prius, as more environmentally-friendly vehicles enter the marketplace and make it more competitive.
The Prius has been a huge success for Toyota in recent years as people increasingly look to more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly cars, but a growing number of vehicles are now entering the market to compete.
However, Toyota has claimed a recent downturn in sales of its Prius has been due to anticipation of the new version, which is due to be launched later this year.
The arrival of that car onto the market could result in more hybrid Prius cars filtering into the used car market.
The government has recently announced plans to increase the development of electric cars in the UK, with more money to be invested in installing the infrastructure required to make fully-electric vehicles a more viable option for motorists.
