Toyota doubles diesel choice

Jul 18 2008

TOYOTA has doubled the number of diesel cars available in its Auris TR range.

The car manufacturer has announced the introduction of the lightweight 1.4 D-4d 90, which will join the existing three cars in the range.

Drivers will now be able to choose from four types of engine with 1.4 VVT-i and 1.6 VVT-i petrol units and the 2.0 D-4D 130 diesel models available alongside the newcomer.

The new car is described by Toyota as being "ideally suited to life in stop-start urban traffic", boasting a maximum 89bhp, a flat torque curve with 190Nm available from 1,800 to 3,000rpm.

Five-speed and MultiMode transmissions are available, with drivers able to choose between fully-automatic or manual gears.

Prices for the new car start from £14,145 for a 3-door manual model and rise to £15,195 for a 5-door MultiMode version.

As with all TR models, the D-4D 90 is built to a high-specification and features 16-inch spoke alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning and chrome detailing, among other things.
