Toyota tackles emissions in new car

TOYOTA has launched a new environmentally-friendly car that will interest many people looking for used cars.

The car maker has unveiled its new Urban Cruiser, which it says "signals a new industry milestone in achieving the world’s lowest [carbon] emissions for a four-wheel drive car".

Due to arrive into the UK in May this year, the new vehicle could increase interest in Toyota's other eco-friendly vehicles among those buying used cars.

The car's engine is fitted with piezo-electric injector technology and a diesel particulate filter that help it to produce just 130 grams per kilometre of carbon dioxide - the lowest for a four-wheel drive car powered by an internal combustion engine.

Toyota has built a strong reputation as a leader in delivering low-emission vehicles, with its Prius using hybrid technology to switch between electric power and a traditional combustion engine.

In the US, the Prius has gone from strength to strength and Toyota recently announced it had sold one million units of the vehicle worldwide, including 500,000 in the last two years alone.

Such popularity could see plenty of the vehicles entering the used car market in the near future, enabling drivers of used cars the ability to choose a more environmentally-friendly model.
