Toyota tops green poll
Apr 14 2009 TOYOTA has been named top environmental vehicle manufacturer for the second year running.
The company was given the accolade following a survey conducted by Business Car magazine, in a move that could help to increase interest in the firm's used cars.
Under the ranking system for the award, Toyota was given an 86 per cent rating based on the various attributes and achievements of each brand.
Commenting on the success, the company said in a statement: "Toyota has achieved its leading green status thanks to industry-leading hybrid applications - most famously the Prius - and also environmentally-considerate manufacturing and recycling."
Toyota's Prius is one of the most successful environmentally-friendly vehicles in the world, using fuel cell technology to help the vehicle run, thereby significantly reducing its emissions.
The success of the Prius has helped Toyota challenge the top automakers in the US, such as FORD and General Motors, as the model has cornered the green market.
