Vauxhall – Handbrake headache

Feb 17 2010
Car makers and top brands face tough times when they receive complaints regarding malfunctioning of any parts of their models. They are left with no alternative but to recall the batch of cars purported to be facing that particular problem and that involves a lot of cost absorption. Besides, they also have to contend with negative publicity associated with such actions and have to come out with an adequate public relationship exercise to mitigate any damage caused to the brand.

Vauxhall faced a similar problem when there were claims about the handbrakes failing and stationary cars began rolling away. This was with their Vauxhall Corsa D model and was reported by BBC in their watchdog programme.

While Vauxhall was concerned and at the same time surprised that this could happen with one of their models, the fact that the number of complaints crossed the hundred mark made them sit up and take cognisance of it. This problem had been noticed earlier with the Vauxhall Vectra as well as the Sigum and that is despite the design for the Corsa being different. All these cars were promoted heavily through easy car finance and car loan schemes to make it convenient for the customer to acquire them.
