In a move that will most likely cause many fans to start hunting for cheap car loan options, GM Europe has announced plans on producing a successor to its very popular 2-door from the 1990s, the Vauxhall Calibra. The announcement was made by Nick Reilly, chief of GM in Europe. As the man in charge of Opel and Vauxhall, he of course has the final say in the matter.
Reilly referred to the GTC coupe that made its debut at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show and said that the new Calibra will be a similar vehicle. The GTC of course went on to become the Insignia and will probably form the basis for the new Calibra. The GTC sported a 2.8 litre V6 turbo engine with a power output of 320 bhp (brake horse power).
The Calibra will use Vauxhall's new range of direct-injection petrol engines, which aim to provide a better balance between power and fuel efficiency. According to Reilly, the new engines will be between 10% and 15% more economical than their predecessors. This, in combination with the cheaper car loan options available today, will of course significantly reduce the overall driving cost of these vehicles.
The Calibra was undoubtedly a highly popular car. More than 250,000 of the vehicles were sold throughout the world before production ceased in 1997.
In news that could significantly reduce your car loan repayments if you are interested in buying an electric vehicle, Reilly also announced that a new, much cheaper version of the Ampera will be available in the UK from 2012. The retail price of this car will be around £27,000.
