Vauxhall-Opel Ampera can now be Rented

Many of us are excited by the emergence of electric car technology, but we are not quite ready yet to commit to a car loan and years of instalments on one of these eco-conscious little fuel-savers.

A good way to experience a car for a couple of days without having to buy it is of course to rent one.  That is why many would-be electric car owners will most likely be happy to hear that we will soon be able to rent the Vauxhall-Opel Ampera in this country.

Europcar has reached an agreement with Opel to make the car available in the rental market throughout Europe.

They aim to start off by making the car available in Europcar outlets throughout Germany from November 2011.  From there the programme will be expanded to the Netherlands and Belgium.  The planned release date for the UK, Spain, Portugal, Italy and France is early 2012.

Alain Visser, the Vice President of Marketing, Sales and After-sales over at Opel-Vauxhall, sees electric cars as one of the best long term solutions to meet our environmental challenges and energy needs.  He also considers the Ampera to be wholly suitable for day-to-day use, also as a fleet vehicle.

The Ampera is able to deliver between 40km and 80km in electric mode – during which emission levels will of course be zero.  Overall it offers 147 miles per gallon and CO2 emission levels are less than 40 grams per kilometre.

During handover customers will receive a quick training session on how to get the most from the car.
