Automaker VAUXHALL has shown off the first pictures of its new-look Astra.
The manufacturer has announced the new model will debut at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but it has released some new pictures of the vehicle ahead of that date in a bid to boost interest.
Vauxhall is hoping the new model can replicate the success of the previous Astra, which has acquired the reputation as the top-selling British-built car.
"We're continuing with the same premium design cues as the Insignia, inside and out of the car," said Mark Adams, vice president of GM Europe design.
He continued: "The main design themes, like the wing-shaped light signatures and the blade, needed an individual execution to avoid cloning the model ranges. This is why, for instance, you see twin wings in the rear lights and a reversed blade on its flanks."
Andy Gilson, marketing director at Vauxhall, added that the only thing not to have been changed on the new Astra is its name, demonstrating the extent of the company's overhaul of the model.
The move could result in an increase in the number of old Astras coming into the used car market as more people choose to upgrade to the new version.
Last month, Vauxhall launched the new Insignia ecoFLEX, offering significantly lower carbon emissions as part of the company's drive to boost its environmental credentials.
