As figures show more people are looking to buy smaller cars during the recession, VOLKSWAGEN has taken the idea to the maximum, by launching its new Golf GTI on a Scalextric track.
Ahead of the new Golf GTI's official launch on May 22nd, the car manufacturer has built a massive Scalextric track inside a hangar and is giving internet users the opportunity to test the new model's skills for themselves.
The 30ft by 25ft track has been built by a team of 60 modellers and users will be able to race the new car online and against the clock.
It will also give interested motorists the chance to learn a bit more about the Golf GTI ahead of its launch later this month and it is hoped the initiative will encourage more people to purchase the new vehicle.
The arrival of the new GTI could also help increase demand for Volkswagens in the used car market, as well as boosting the availability of the vehicles as more people trade in their old ones for the newer model.
Volkswagen's new GTI is capable of speeds of up to 149mph and can achieve 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds.
