VOLKSWAGEN has previewed a re-invented hot hatch model before it officially joins its list of new cars for sale.

Car Finance customers looking for a sporty, retro model could be interested in the Scirocco GT24, which was taken for a spin at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The new car was driven up Goodwood Hill at the event of the weekend and is based on a VW car which was first developed in the 1970s.

Volkswagen said the new model is powered by a "revised version of the road car's 2.0-litre TSI engine developing 325 PS at 6,500rpm, operating through a bespoke six-speed DSG gearbox with new ratios and clutch plates".

The Goodwood Festival of Speed was established in 1993, and attracted 23,000 spectators on its debut.

This year's total gate was expected to be around the 150,000 mark, with about 20 television stations also covering the event.
