Car manufacturer VOLKSWAGEN has welcomed its 18 millionth visitor to its Autostadt theme park and communications platform in Wolfsburg, Germany.
The milestone has been reached a staggering nine years ahead of schedule, the company announced, just before the centre celebrates its ninth birthday.
Although the original predictions suggested the park would not see 18 million visitors until 2018, the destination has become one of Germany's biggest tourist attractions over the last decade and is now a firm favourite with visitors from around the world.
Visitors to the Autostadt could be inspired to buy a new or used car after enjoying a day out at the site, which has a wide variety of entertainment for all the family, including a museum, a tour of the massive factory and a guide to the evolution of roads.
It also has a KundenCenter, or Customer Centre, which allows German customers to pick up new cars.
"Volkswagen has acquired numerous new customers, amongst others, through the German government's Environmental Incentive," said Otto Ferdinand Wachs, Autostadt chief executive.
"Most of them are drawn both by the excitement of visiting the VW Group's theme park and collecting their new car personally from the Autostadt's KundenCenter," he added.
Volkswagen's Golf model recently scooped the World Car of the Year award for 2009 at the New York International Auto Show.
