Many car finance buyers will be excited to hear that the seventh generation Golf is on its way. Although the car is only due for release in 2013, the motoring press has already obtained some sneak shots of the redesigned Golf. As far as the exterior goes, however, it seems to be identical to its predecessor.
The interior of the car is a different story altogether. The instrument panel now features a large rev counter and a speedometer, plus engine temperature and fuel gauges. A string of LED lights display the temperature and fuel levels. The new design leaves enough space to fit a large trip computer screen neatly between the two main dials.
The redesigned instrument panel will be shared by the upcoming seventh generation Golf Plus, cabrio, estate and hatchback models. There is also a sporty new 4-door coupe version coming soon – similar to the Compact Coupe, showcased at the Detroit Motor Show in 2010.
The Chief of Development at Volkswagen, Ulrich Hackenburg, explained to the press that fitting the Golf with a new chassis will allow VW engineers to develop and use a new range of engines. He hinted at alternative fuel models and hybrid versions in the not too distant future.
Volkswagen already has existing technology that it just needs to develop further. Many car finance buyers will remember that the company has already showcased a VW Twin Drive Gold concept car driven by a two-litre turbo diesel engine delivering 122 bhp coupled with an electric motor developing 82hp. The combined power output of the car is 174bhp and it can travel 30 miles in battery mode.
