Volkswagen Releases Passat Alltrack

Nov 26 2011 Volkswagen Releases Passat Alltrack Image

If you can’t wait to get your hands on car finance to buy a 4x4, your job of choosing the right vehicle for your purposes has just become a little more difficult.  Volkswagen has released its answer to the Audi Allroad and the Skoda Octavia.  Called the Passat Alltrack, it will make its first public appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show in a week’s time.

UK showrooms will be able to begin taking orders for the new Volkswagen a few months from now in April 2012 with the first deliveries being in July next year.

No prices for the new model have been released yet, but we have become used to new models being priced higher than their predecessors – so expect a price of more than £20,605.

The 4x4 Passat will feature Volkswagen 4-Motion technology and also hill descent assist.

As is the case with other Volkswagen models equipped with 4-motion, the front wheel of the Alltrack will also be conventionally driven with only 10% of engine power being delivered to the rear wheels.  When it becomes necessary though, the electrohydraulic Haldex clutch can be used to send 100% of engine power to the rear wheels.

In the UK the new Passat will be available as a 2-litre TDI delivering 168bhp and a 2-litre TDI with a manual six-speed gearbox delivering 138bhp.

The car will come standard with electronic climate control, Alcantara upholstery, a tyre pressure monitoring system, cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth phone compatibility and MDI iPod connectivity.
