VOLVO could have an "uncrashable" car on the market by 2020, possibly tempting car loan customers.
In a move likely to cement its reputation for having a strong commitment to safety the manufacturer is aiming for a model which eliminates death or injury.
AM online reports the marque is to concentrate on developing sensor technology which provides information to automatic brake and steering systems.
Volvo safety team leader Jan Iversson told the site: "If you have a really long perspective, I think we will not have vehicles that will crash in the future."
Safety-conscious potential car loan customers could add Volvo
to their shortlist of preferred manufacturers after hearing the news.
Some Volvos already have features like sensors that can tell if the driver is falling asleep at the wheel, the site adds.
The firm's 2009 versions of the S80 and XC90 models offer comfort as well as safety features, including luxury massage seats.
