A car maker has revealed an as-standard automatic braking system for a new model, set to appeal to safety-conscious car loan customers.
VOLVO said all of its new XC60 vehicles would have the City Safety system, set to be one of the first as-standard features of its type available to Car Finance customers.
The technology is designed to avoid or reduce the impact of low-speed collisions by reading the distances to cars in front of the bumper.
Volvo said: "If the gap between the cars continues to close and the driver remains inactive, the car applies the brakes automatically."
The development picked up an award in the technology category of the Fleet World Honours this week, and will appear in all-new XC60s arriving in October.
Volvo said surveys indicate 75 per cent of all collisions happen at speeds lower than 18mph, with drivers not managing to brake at all in half of these incidents.
The car maker first started working on a fully automatic braking system in 2006, having first introduced assisted braking technology in its S80 model.
