Volvo’s plans for China

Sep 10 2010 Both the BMW 7-Series as well as the Mercedes Benz S-Class which have enjoyed a good run in the Chinese market would have stiff competition from Volvo very soon if one has to go by what the new owner Geely Holding Group’s chairman has said when speaking to Reuters.
He expects Volvo to compete against these famous German brands with a competitive offering n the luxury sedan segment as he feels that this has been neglected for some time now and Volvo must come out with suitable products to challenge these majors.
It is a different ball game when it comes to the affordability of these cars for the common man. These are for the super rich who need not and do not need to take assistance of any car finance or car credit schemes to buy them.
The current Volvo model in the large sedan segment is S80 and it is cheaper to the Audi A8 and the S-Class. The figures to achieve profitability are 380,000 according to Li, the chairman and he is of the opinion that they would have to sell far more than that to offer a truly competitive product.
Ford and Geely will continue to share technology as well as components for this brand.
