Car manufacturer VOLVO has announced it will focus on sustainability, using the three focal points of safety, environmental care and profitability to guide this venture.
The firm's Corporate Report for 2008/2009 revealed the firm has broadened its approach to sustainability and moved the issue up its overall agenda.
Stephen Odell, president and chief executive officer of Volvo Car Corporation, said: "For us sustainability is an integral part of our business and cannot be seen as an isolated focus area."
He added: "I believe that it is more important than ever before to work proactively with sustainability issues and demonstrate tangible results."
Volvo intends to ramp up its achievements in this area by partnering with other bodies and it has published a range of data of its sustainability to date.
Earlier this year, Volvo announced its cars are to be upgraded with state-of-the-art technology developed by one of the world's leading emissions laboratory, in order to lower their carbon output.
The move to more environmentally-friendly vehicles could increase more people to look at buying used cars from the company.
