"Ford Focus C-Max Estate 2003-2007 review"

Exterior and Interior

It is a beautiful car with an excellent design and very intricate detail. The design is modern yet it still has something very different about it. The car is smooth and sleek looking on the outside and on the inside.

Performance and Economy

It goes at the correct speed and the controls are simple. I recommend this car for anyone. With it's fantastic performance, this is one I recommend. The car performance is wonderful and it has exquisite beauty.

Like to Drive

Driving this car feels comfortable and safe. The seats are comfortable so you feel much more safe when driving. The ride is smooth and wonderful. This is a good car for beginners and experts at driving. <

Faults and Repairs

There aren't many faults with this. You will have to find out for yourself to see how little faults there are.

Overview

"Thirsty and rattly, but reliable"

Exterior and Interior

It's done a lot of miles to be fair, but the seats have always been a bit creaky and squeaky. Some of the internal panels rattle a bit too. No complaints about the exterior apart from the alloys which bubbled and cracked after a few years.

Performance and Economy

Biggest gripe! Again I have to start by saying it's done 100k miles but for the last 20k of that the mpg has been getting steadily worse until I am now only getting about 21mpg and it's going through oil like nobody's business. If it wasn't for the consumption I would keep it for another 3 or 4 years but as it is I'm looking to scrap it within the next 6 months.

Like to Drive

Nice driving position and great visibility. Plenty of room in the back for the kids. Dash is nice and clear. Suspension not so great so a bit bumpy at times but again that has got worse with age. Generally okay. <

Faults and Repairs

No real faults to speak of, other than things you might expect of a car that age. Needed a spot of welding to a bracket holding the exhaust. Brakes partially ceased at one point a couple of years ago which meant I went through a set of pads quicker than expected.

Overview

"Perfect budget family car"

Exterior and Interior

The LX model hasn't got many features (no heated windscreen, picnic tables in back, alloy wheels etc) so I'd recommend going for a Zetec or above if you can find one. Having said that, the solid plastic door trims and vinyl seat backs on the LX are very easy to keep clean. Materials are good quality. Exterior is in good shape (my 2004 model is 9 years old). Loads of room inside, large boot, perfect practical family car.

Performance and Economy

The 1.8 model is very nippy and smooth. Ours does around 36mpg on average, mostly on short journeys. Not bad for the size of car and performance.

Like to Drive

Much nicer to drive than you'd expect for its size. Handles very well, and the slightly raised driving position over a normal Focus is very pleasant. The 1.8 petrol engine is quiet and refined and gives plenty of power for confident overtaking. <

Faults and Repairs

The alternator failed, but was reasonably cheap to replace. A bad connection in the fuse box caused a non-start at another time. Other than that, it's been reliable and fault free. The 1.8 Duratec engine has a timing chain rather than a belt, so no belt changes to worry about. Servicing parts are cheap and widely available, and it's easy to do at home with basic tools.
